“I have given skill to all the skillful, so that they may make all that I have commanded you. “ Exodus 31:6

“O Thou who art the all pervading glory of the world, we bless Thee for the power of beauty to gladden our hearts.
We praise Thee that even the least of us may feel a thrill of the creative joy when we give form and substance to our thoughts and, beholding our handiwork, find it good and fair. “.
Walter Rauschenbusch

"Come, and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what He has done for me.
I cried out to Him with my mouth; His praise was on my tongue.
If I had cherished sin in my heart, the LORD woud not have listened and heard my voice in prayer.
Praise be to God, Who has not rejected my prayer or withheld His love from me!" Psalm 66:16-20

FINISH!!...Log Cabin in the Ferns

This quilt top was begun just a day before the Ice Storm Fern hit Tennessee, causing me to have to leave my home until power could be restored.  Trees were damaged all over our county and surrounding counties.  Thankfully, my neighbors took me in for a night and day until I could get to my brother's home for the next couple of nights.

As soon as my power was restored, I got to come home, and have never been so very thankful for my little place.   I went back to piecing this quilt-top as soon as possible to restore a sense of normalcy to my life.

It is made from my cache of fabrics that I pretty much always use for all of my scrap quilts.   There just never seems to be an end to them.

I spent the day last Friday thread-basting in my living room once again, having had to move alot of the furniture in order to make room.  At my current age of 68, this one really took it out of me .  I can't say that I basted this one as closely as I have always done with my quilts, but I am just thankful that I was able to do this much.  It is basted plenty close enough to be stable while I quilt, although I haven't fully decided whether to hand- or machine-quilt this beauty.   It measured approximately 60 x 85  as a top, and I backed it with a lovely, soft flannel that measured 108 inches wide and long.   I had to get down on my knees on the floor in order to cut the backing fabric down small enough to pin  onto my basting frame.  These old knees DID NOT care for that, but we got 'er done !  I used a Hobbs 80/20 cotton/polyester batting.  When finished , this quilt should just fit my twin bed with a small tuck at the foot, and maybe a 6inch or so drape over the sides.

The Aqua that you see is the paint color of the walls behind my quilt top and design wall sheet.  I may have made a mistake trying out this border design that I made up.  I wanted one that I could add as blocks to the main body of the quilt-top as the blocks were all assembled.  I didn't want to have to sew on long stretches of border fabric.  Looking at it now, I don't think that it enhances the quilt design at all, but, it's on there now, so I'll learn to live with it.  Who knows, maybe I'll fall in love with it and it will become a favorite !
