A couple of years ago, I hand appliqued the peels for an orange-peel quilt-top, made in shades of turquoise, green, and blue on background squares of whites printed with grey tones.
After appliqueing, I cut out from behind each peel, leaving a white-print smaller peel. The scrapper in me just wouldn't let me throw away over a hundred of these little peels.
So, when my friend, Jodie Ann passed away last month, I ran across, in my shelves, some yardage of solid red that was left over from a project that she had me do years ago.
In remembrance of her, for my own grief-healing, I machine appliqued those leftover white peels onto the red yardage. This is the completed top.
Then, this week, I just started playing around with a design that I had sketched up in my notebook years ago. It involved these "shadowed blocks". I'm disappointed that they don't look more 3-dimensional than they do---I think that I used too dark a shade of grey for the shadow. Or, maybe I just made the shadow part too small Hmmmm....I'd really like to figure that out and try again sometime.
Anyway, I'm trying to finish it as a large couch throw for one of my brothers (Jeff), and have been using stash. I'm sorry to say that I do not have enough of the Riley Blake print to make the side borders match the top and bottom borders, and the vertical sashes. If you have it in your stash and want to share a yard, please comment here and let's see how we can make that happen !
I am enjoying spending time with my new friend, Darleene Easley, who has asked me to teach her to quilt. I have turned her and her husband into huge antique Singer sewing machine fans.......he's buying them up to service and resale, which blessed her with the acquisition of a couple for her own use !
Spring is trying to stand up to this month's rains and say, "I'm coming anyway, ready or not !"
And, Lottie-dah still hasn't found a companion (besides me), but the search goes on.....in the meantime, she's fat, if not so very sassy.
So, that's all for now.....and about time to crawl back into my pajamas after this beautiful day ! God bless you my friends, til we meet here again !
