Well, that changed a couple of nights ago, on the 28th, when a friend on facebook (who knew I was searching for a kitten) tagged me in a post about a kitten that had showed up at our local daycare center, and was in need of a home.
This is Marley.
I've named her for the swirls in her coat, on the sides of her body, and took the first 3 letters of my mom's name (Margery), and the last three letters of my daughter's name (Kelley).
Honestly, I have been trying to find a
'glam cat', because Lottie-dah is just so gorgeous to me, and I wanted my second kitty NOT to be known as "the other one". At first glance, I wasn't interested in this one because tabby cats are just so common to me (no offense intended, just a personal lack of preference), EXCEPT FOR the ones that have the beautiful black swirls on their gray coat. I've never had one like that before, and when I saw the swirls, I gave in.
So, I brought her home with me after meeting her on the morning of March 1st, yesterday.
What I didn't anticipate, though, was how antagonistic Lottie was going to be toward her. This is Miss Lottie's attitude......
I just wish that you could hear her GROWLS.
I've purposely declined offers of older kittens, thinking that Lottie would only accept a baby that she could 'mother'. But Lottie has never BEEN a mother, and, so far, shows no interest in that title or occupation.
But after an overnight of losing her place in bed (at my neck), and sulking at my feet, she did show a bit of interest when the kitten was wildly playing in the living room floor this morning. She hasn't growled as much today, and even played with me a bit while keeping a bit of distance from Marley.....before both settled down for LONG DAYTIME NAPS.
So, stay tuned for updates and photos of our progress. I'm trying to think of myself as a foster mother at this point, thinking that if Lottie doesn't warm up to Marley, I'll be looking for someone else to give her a truly welcoming home.
But, really, I'm loving this baby a bit already.
So sweet! I’ll bet your cat will adjust to the new baby. 😊
ReplyDeleteI think it's happening !!!!
DeleteBut Lottie is not keeping food down for some reason. Still, she seems fine otherwise, just keeps barging on the rug ! If not done tomorrow, I'll probably consult the vet.
That's BARFING !
DeleteYour new fur baby is adorable. I hope it works out.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking we're slowly getting there ! Now to figure out how to keep her from destroying my couch and things. Gonna be a declawing in her future, me thinks (it didn't hurt Lottie, that I can tell.)
